Atheist’s Case for Christian Evangelism

January 22nd, 2009 by Joseph Louthan (5) Culture,Evangelism,Salvation

Mark 16:14-16 (ESV) Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at table, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Thanks for sharing this. Imagine how great Penn’s influence would be for the Kingdom if he just believed. And the guy who stood toe to toe with him and extended grace AND a Bible – awesome!

Wow. What an honest look at evangelism from an outside perspective. If I were an antheist (which by no means I intend to be or become) I would wholly agree with Penn. Even the world can see that if you truly believe in Jesus you must be willing to tell others.

The sadest part to me is that people still refuse to believe, even when confronted with a genuine honest gospel in such a non-confrontational way. Often people say they don’t believe because someone tried to cram it down their throat. Well this guy is proving that we make a choice what we believe, regardless of how it is presented. If sincerity and good presentation were the standard, Penn would have been converted. But the truth is that people respond on their own volition to the Holy Spirit’s call. It is our job to obey and tell the message.

    Exactly.

Jesus said, “Proclaim my gospel”. Jesus never said, “Wait until you get good at speaking with people or wait until you feel comfortable or wait until you can speak it with authority.”

Jesus simply said, “Proclaim my gospel.”

It is not based on our delivery. We deliver it. It is up to God to save.

If they do not accept right away, then you keep presenting it.

At a recent pastor’s conference on evangelism, the speaker asked all those to stand who fully accepted the gospel the first time they heard it.

    Five people stood up.

How many pastors heard the gospel multiple times before accepting?

    1500+.

You keep chasing and you keep pursuing and you keep going after the unsaved because Jesus Christ in heaven didn’t give up on you and He didn’t give up on me.
