Only The Broken

Luke 18:13 God, be merciful to me, a sinner!

Who is Jesus to you?

February 2nd, 2009 by Michael (4) Encouragement

I love the above picture. I was so intrigued by this artist’s rendition of Jesus.

Do you ever think about Christ hanging out with inmates, gang-bangers, prostitutes, or drug addicts?

This picture, to me, shows the forgotten people. People that normal society rejects, pushes aside, scoffs at, or forgets about.

What are your thoughts? Who is Jesus to you?

That is exactly whom Jesus would have hanged out with.

Like He said in Matthew 9:11-13 And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”

That is what so sick is that many of us thinks that we have done enough in our lifetime to warrant the presence of God in our lives when Christ clearly says, “You don’t think you need to be saved so why do you need Me?”.

Just like in Luke 18. You have the clean cut guy, sitting in the front of the church, prim, proper, rocking the WWJD bracelets, Christian shirt and 4 or more fish on the back of his car. He prays with his head held high saying, “Thank God I am not some sort of sinner.”

Yet, there is this guy in the back, crying uncomfortably loud and down on his knees. You can’t see his face because he isn’t even looking up yet there are streams of tears flowing from his face like somebody is pouring a gallon of water over his head. With every single breath in his lungs and screaming so loud that his vocal chords are being ripped to shreds as he cries, “LORD, SAVE ME, A SINNER!”.

Guess who Jesus wants to go hang out with? Guess who is getting saved?

    Hi Michael,

I would like to use this picture as part of a sermon for Easter Sunday. I want to make sure to give proper credit to the artist. Do you know who the artist is?

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    Dan,

I actually am not sure who made that picture. I actually tried to research it and couldnt find out. Please definitely take the pic and use it. I think it could actually change the way people may think.

    Blessings brother

Thanks. I plan to use it with a sermon on Matt 9:9-13. Jesus came for the broken. I am going to reference your website, if that’s ok. I like to give appropriate credit, and maybe it will draw more people to your site.
    In Him.
